Ghana and UAE Sign $1 Billion Innovation Hub to Boost Digital Economy

Ghana has taken a major step toward becoming a continental technology hub with the signing of a US$1 billion Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to establish the Ghana-UAE Innovations and Technology Hub in the Ningo-Prampram corridor. The agreement, finalised in 2025, envisions a 25 km² innovation district designed to attract global technology companies and accelerate Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.

The project will serve as a regional base for global tech giants in AI engineering, business process outsourcing (BPO), knowledge process outsourcing (KPO), and data-focused machine learning applications tailored for African markets. Participating firms could include industry leaders such as Microsoft, Oracle, Meta, IBM, and Alphabet. Ghana’s government is providing land and enabling regulatory frameworks, while the UAE’s Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) leads investment and development efforts.

Officials involved in the initiative emphasise that the hub will not only create hundreds of thousands of technology-driven jobs but also position Ghana as a strategic gateway for innovation and digital services across West Africa. Broader digital goals include nationwide broadband coverage by 2027 and legislative reforms to enhance cybersecurity, data protection, and digital infrastructure.

The hub aligns with Ghana’s ambition to accelerate digital exports, deepen entrepreneurial ecosystems, and build capacity in emerging technology sectors such as artificial intelligence and fintech. With help from global partners, stakeholders hope this project will be transformative in bridging skill gaps and integrating Ghana more deeply into the global digital economy.
