Ghana’s Fashion Industry Drives Economic Growth in 2025

Ghana’s fashion sector made headlines in 2025 by contributing approximately US$2.42 billion to the national economy  roughly 3% of GDP  underscoring the creative industry’s expanding economic footprint. Government officials highlighted that the sector not only generates formal employment for over 25,000 individuals but also supports more than 100,000 informal jobs, particularly among women and youth.

At Ghana’s Biggest Fashion and Beauty Expo in Accra, the Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to nurturing the creative economy as a key driver of job creation, cultural diplomacy, and export potential. Organisers also cite growing international demand for African-made designs and local branding as evidence of Ghana’s cultural influence on the global stage.

Projections indicate that the Ghanaian fashion market could exceed US$843 million in revenue by the end of 2025, with long-term growth tied to global African fashion trends and enhanced local capacity building. Industry stakeholders also announced plans for a Creative Arts Fund and a Fashion and Textiles Month under the Black Star Experience initiative in 2026 to further elevate Ghana’s creative talents.

Despite challenges linked to used clothing imports and sustainability concerns, the event reaffirmed the fashion industry’s role in economic diversification and cultural identity. A national apprenticeship programme and other support mechanisms are planned to empower young creatives and strengthen industry competitiveness.
