National Muslim Conference Calls for Stronger Policy Engagement

The fifth annual National Muslim Conference held in Accra concluded with a renewed call for stronger engagement of Ghana’s Muslim community in national policymaking and governance affairs. Delegates  comprising clerics, youth leaders, scholars, and civil society representatives  emphasized the importance of proactive participation in Ghana’s public discourse to shape policies affecting socio-economic development.

The two-day event, themed “Muslim Community Engagement in Policy Making: The Role of the National Muslim Conference of Ghana in Nation Building,” served as a platform for strategic dialogue on advancing community interests while promoting national cohesion. The Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, encouraged patience and constructive collaboration, noting that the government is committed to fulfilling its promises equitably for all religious communities.

Key discussion points included leveraging community networks for inclusive education, economic empowerment, and peacebuilding, as well as enhancing legal awareness and civic participation. Participants also underscored the value of interfaith cooperation as a foundation for Ghana’s peace and stability, urging Muslim youth to actively engage in public service and leadership roles.

The conference’s outcomes are expected to inform future policy engagements and foster institutional partnerships between Muslim organizations and government agencies  marking a step forward in strengthening participatory governance and mutual respect among Ghana’s diverse religious communities.
